Our Story
The Beginning
3D Geomatics Inc., a Vancouver Island based company, was established in 2002 by Barry Fisk, formerly a senior surveyor with the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MoTI). Leveraging Barry Fisk’s MoTI contacts, technical expertise and knowledge, 3D Geomatics initially specialized in the provision of engineering topographic surveys using CAiCE and then AutoDesk Civil3D services to the MoTI, other government agencies and numerous engineering firms.
In 2006, 3D Geomatics expanded its service portfolio to include construction surveying, such as construction layout, site plans, as-built surveys and volume surveys.
The Future
To support some of their clientele’s unique needs and to offer alternative survey options, 3D diversified by adopting the use of advanced technologies. In 2020 Surface & Edge 3D Inc. merged with 3D bringing 9 years of laser scanning expertise.
3D continues to expand its geomatics services by providing machine control data support services, UAV/drone capabilities and by establishing satellite operations in Port Alberni, Courtenay, and Victoria, to better serve their clients and projects in those regions.

Company DNA
We are a unique group of trailblazing geomatic professionals bringing together old world, traditional surveying methodologies with modern advanced technology. Our lineage is rich in history dating back to the early fifties with the inception of the highway from Vancouver to Squamish (now called the Sea to Sky Highway), the 5 km Kamloops bypass, and most recently upgrading 76 km of the Bamfield road. Love for this discipline flows in our blood and with the skills forged in the rugged and unpredictable ecosystem of Vancouver Island, we can confidently bring our geomatic skills into any landscape and climate in western Canada.
